Today’s Interview is with the very talented Jaidean Baker of www.Jaideanbakerphotography.com
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a mom to two wonderful kids – Teagun who is almost 5 and Emery who is two. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Trevor. I’m quiet, laid back, love ice cream, granitas and shopping. I have a business degree in Human Resources and Management Information Systems, which have been very useful in the startup of my own business. I absolutely love photographing newborns, kids, and families and feel so fortunate to be a photographer.
Where is your home?
Spokane, WA
If you could build your dream home anywhere, where would it be?
Probably around the San Diego area. I love the sun, warm weather and beaches! However, it would be too hard to leave all the family we have around here…

When you are not photographing, what are you up to?
Playing with my kids, reading, shopping, going to movies/getting pedicures with friends. J
Do you twitter?
Yes! http://twitter.com/jaideanbaker
How about facebook?
Of course! http://www.facebook.com/jaideanbakerphotography
Where is your absolute favorite place to shop?
Hmmm…I think I’ll go with TJ Maxx since I can buy for myself, my kid’s and fun stuff for my home there (and they always have good little props for photos too!). J

What is something you’re saving up for?
We are taking a family trip to San Diego and Disneyland this summer so we are saving up for that.
How long have you been a photographer?
Officially about 2 years, but really got interested in starting my own business about 4 years ago, just took awhile to get everything together. But I guess even years before that as I had a film SLR that I loved. So long answer short – for as long as I can remember!
Can you recall the first photo you took that made you go WOW!?
Yes, it was a picture of my son at the pumpkin patch. I realize now it is not technically perfect, but I love it and actually still have it hanging on my fridge. J Well, actually, even before that I have a picture that I just took with my old point and shoot of the sunset in Hawaii that I have framed. I will stop there because if I keep thinking back, I’m sure I can go back even more…lol.

What type of camera do you shoot with?
Nikon D700
What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My 85mm lens
If you had to choose one lens to use which one would it be and why?
My 85mm lens…it is sharp and I love the bokeh it creates.
Do you plan on buying any new equipment soon, if so what do you have your eyes on?
Well, I’m not sure how soon, but I have my eye on the 135mm 2.0 and the 70-200mm 2.8. It will be one or the other and probably not for another year at least.

How would you describe your photographic style?
Clean, Bright, Colorful, Timeless
Who are some of your influences?
My kids and family. Kids grow up way too fast and I love looking back and pictures to remember specific stages and memories. Also, last year my grandfather passed away from cancer and I am so happy to have all the pictures of him. It reaffirmed how important photography is to me.
What types of assignments are you attracted most?
Definitely newborns, children and families. I have photographed a few weddings and it was a great experience, but just didn’t get that feeling I do when I photograph newborns, children, and families so have chosen to focus exclusively on that. I also have had the opportunity to photograph one birth and it was the most amazing experience and I really hope to be able to get into that more also.
About your post process:
Mac or PC? PC…am I the first PC person you have interviewed?? LOL…

How important is Photoshop in your final images?
Definitely important. I also use Lightroom in conjunction with Photoshop and both are equally important to me in presenting finished products.
What is your most used Photoshop tool, plug-in, action set etc.?
I am an action junkie and probably have hundreds and, honestly, only regularly use two – a resize/sharpen for web action and a black and white conversion action.
Can you share a before and after photo?

Thank you so much for your time Jaidean! Be sure to check out Jaidean’s blog to view more of her recent work!
